Some of Britain’s top transport managers will go head-to-head over the next six weeks in an award scheme designed to recognise and reward their skills, talent and commitment. The competition covers all levels of management throughout the UK’s public transport industry. The short-list of potential winners features leaders from bus, coach, rail and light rail sectors, together with local transport authorities and community transport operators.

The Leadership in Passenger Transport Awards (LiPTA) are being presented this year for the first time, and the short-list was announced today on social media.

Over 60 people from 30 organisations around the country succeeded in reaching the short-list in one of the scheme’s fourteen categories. These cover the project leadership, engineering, marketing and PR and stakeholder management plus digital communication, innovation and new thinking, customer service and service delivery.

There is a special category to highlight the achievements of talented young leaders, whilst the scheme’s grand prix is the title of Passenger Transport Leader of the Year. The contributions of supervisors and junior management will be recognised through the Unsung Heroes Award, and there’s a Lifetime Achievement Award too, to be announced at the presentation ceremony on 16 July.

The new awards scheme is organised by not-for-profit organisation Transport Events Group (TEG), the team behind the prestigious UK Bus Awards.

TEG Chair Giles Fearnley commented: “Public transport is crucial for millions and plays a key role in addressing congestion and climate change. The industry’s future depends on the skills, talent and commitment of its managers. This scheme aims to foster and celebrate those qualities.”

“We’re delighted with the strong response to the scheme from public transport operators across the country,” he added. “Just getting to this stage in the competition represents a major achievement of which the nominees should be very proud. We congratulate them warmly, and are very much looking forward to announcing the winners at our Presentation Ceremony on 16 July.”
